TITLE: Traffic Coordinator
LOCATION: Woodbridge, Ontario
REPORTS TO: Manager, Traffic & Dispatch

JOB SUMMARY

The Traffic Coordinator’s position focuses on the scheduling and routing of the client’s freight in a manner that maximizes both internal and external stakeholder satisfaction while minimizing both direct and indirect costs to the Company. The Traffic Coordinator executes his/her tasks within the Company’s policies and procedures and requirements of the legal and regulatory environments the Company operates in.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and coordinate inbound and outbound loads in an optimal manner within specifically assigned territories.
• Document all transactions and important business information in a fashion prescribed by supervisors with a focus on process improvement.
• Make recommendations to superiors on potential service schedule changes which will aide in enhancing the Company’s performance.
• Receive work orders either in person, over email, or the phone.
• Confer with designated Graphic team members and/or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
• Escalate issues in a timely fashion to all appropriate parties.
• Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization in order to coordinate service and schedules.
• Record and maintain files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information in a fashion prescribed by Management.
• Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required according to work orders or specifications.
• Advise personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards.
• Determine routing for all outsourced freight
• Build loads in a fashion that optimizes the efficiency of the routing and cube utilization
• Obtain back hauls for our trucks, negotiate rates with carriers
• Troubleshoot issues as they arise

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
• Strong geographic knowledge of North America.
• Knowledge of computerized information systems and applications to include personal computers, general software applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook), and keyboard facility.
• Experience with TMW’s (Maddocks) TruckMate™ system is an asset.
• Demonstrated aptitude and desire to apply skills to analyze and solve business problems.

• Able to manage time workload with moderate supervision to complete assignments and meet deadline schedule.
• Skill in both verbal and written communication and able to interact with teams in a professional manner.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be recognized.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Client is a medium size owner managed business providing national distribution to the print advertising industry, LTL services in Canada, and a growing warehousing and 3PL business unit.

Their operation runs 24 hours a day, year round, and Dispatchers worked scheduled shifts which may be revised and rotated on a periodic or scheduled basis. An office environment is the primary work site, with a 10 hour working day plus a 30 minute lunch break for an approximate equivalent of 50 working hours per week. Overtime, weekend, day, evening and night shift hours will be required periodically to fulfill the responsibilities of this position due to the nature of the operation’s 24/7 schedule. Dispatchers are expected to be reachable via Company provided mobile communications device on off hours when business service issues occur.

Duties will require routine daily movement to warehouse floor and offices; to truck parking area adjacent to warehouse.

Occasional travel may be required in the GTA to meet with suppliers and customers.

ACADEMIC / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Post secondary education is an asset with a demonstrated interest in Transportation or Logistics

• Salary of $40,000 – $50,000
