Overview:
The Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives (CLGA) is a community based organization with a mandate to collect, preserve, and present materials of historical significance to the LGBTQ community in Canada. The CLGA was founded in 1973 as part of The Body Politic, Canada's gay liberation newsmagazine of record during the 1970s and 80s. It has since grown to become the second largest repository of LGBTQ themed materials in the world. The CLGA is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Job Description:
Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be a leader that:
• Effectively and efficiently manages all day-to-day aspects of the organization;
• Supports and implements the decisions of the Board;
• Embodies the organization's mission and values
The General Manager will be required to work extensively with CLGA volunteers and members, as well as the general public.
Based on the strengths of the successful candidate, together with the Board of Directors the General Manager will:
• assist with the development and execution of fundraising and membership campaigns.
• ensure that facilities are open to the public and staffed to support archival functions during posted hours;
• oversee administration and recordkeeping: support & coordinate annual budget planning process, as well as monthly/ad hoc reporting of financial results and other operating metrics;
• supervise and train designated volunteers;
• liaise with the general public and the LGBTQ community to promote the organization's mission and values; and
• support and assist the following volunteer committees:
o Community Engagement
o Finance
o Volunteer Care
o Operations
o Fundraising and Membership
o Marketing, Communications, Web and Social Media
o Curatorial
o Facilities
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess:
• A strong interest in LGBTQ history and contemporary issues;
• Superior written and oral communication skills;
• Business acumen with demonstrated organizational abilities;
• Ability to work independently and exhibit leadership;
• Post-secondary degree or equivalent
• Fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector would be an asset
• Some familiarity with fundraising and accounting software such as Income Manager and Simply Accounting would be a definite asset; strong computer skills in the basic programs of Microsoft Office are required.
