Communication, Community and Lifelong Learning Facilitator and Personal Care Assistant
Available part-time work Saturdays, frequently one evening and some Sundays; 10-20 hours per week
Minimum one-year commitment is essential
Extensive training will be provided for you to assist with :
• All elements of my personal care
• Assistance with my augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
• Literacy and life-long learning
• Range of motion exercises and other physiotherapy routines
• Emails and getting together with friends
• Interviews and writing
• Artistic endeavors
• Volunteer work
• Public presentations about AAC, inclusion and human rights
The ideal candidate is: creative and fun-loving; warm, caring, thoughtful and communicative; emotionally attuned; patient, gentle and empathic; dedicated and loyal; confident, respectful and responsible; a self-starter willing to pitch in; well organized with good time management skills; focused and detail-oriented; physically fit; open to homeopathic and naturopathic approaches; willing to use unscented products; able to remain calm and supportive during epileptic seizures; able to speak and write with clarity; able to work independently and on a team; committed to social justice, inclusion and the environment; a non-smoker living in a non-smoking household.
Previous experience supporting people with exceptionalities and familiarity with person-centred planning, social role valorization and the empowerment model are welcome assets, but not required.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is a student or at the beginning of their career in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), education, writing, music, dance, visual arts, inclusion, speech language pathology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
