Sr Mechanical Designer (Oakville)

Brief Company Overview:
Our client is a global leader in the auto sector.

Job Duties:
-This position is responsible for the design of mechanical and electromechanical components/products built for new products as well as improve costs and performance of existing products.
-Interpret customer requirements and specifications for confirmation and action.
-Layout design, review and select materials based on customer requirements.
-Assist the Materials Department in acquiring quotes for prototype, piece price and tooling based on drawings.
-Assist the Materials Department in choosing prototype suppliers.
-Write C.E.A.'s, (Capital Expenditure Approvals) for engineering expenditures.
-Coordinate the Design Activities by following the Design/Development procedure.
-Control the overall timing and activities of new programs and communicate status with the customer.
-Make Design Review and New Product presentations to customers and or Sales Department.
-Update and maintain drawings of products based on an engineering change record, (ECR), initiated by production or the engineering department.
-Attend design and tool review meetings.
-Build initial product samples.
-Compare and evaluate tested part specifications with actual values.
-Discuss problem solving capabilities with customers.
-Do DFMEA's and PFMEA's, (Design/Production Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), on new products, review and make changes based on findings.
-Discuss automation versus manual assembly of products with manufacturing engineering, decision based on costs, speed, etc.
-Maintain Project documentation.
-Initiate an ECR for design changes to increase reliability and/or decrease costs, of products.
-Knowledge of current information and programs relating to engineering technology.
-Other duties as required.
Skill Requirements:
-Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR an engineering technologist diploma with superior drafting technology experience
- 10 years of directly related experience in automotive environment.
-Well-rounded understanding of personal computers in the workplace and associated software such as Windows, Windows NT, Excel, word processors, AutoCad and IDEAS, CATIA or Unigraphics.
-Experience in plastic injection molding, metal stamping and tooling.
