freelance Junior Litigation Lawyer

at Szemplinski Law Offices in Mississauga

We are looking for a junior lawyer to independently handle a complex civil litigation case in Superior Court at Brampton.

The initial term will be for about 4 weeks, starting in about mid-November 2011 and ending in mid-December 2011. Depending on the status of the litigation at that time and the lawyer's performance, the contract may be extended to continue from about January 2012 to about April 2012.

Duties will consist mostly of litigation work (about 70%); other work may involve commercial transactions, research, and other general tasks as needed. The lawyer's primary assignment will be to research, prepare for, and attend a civil pre-trial conference for a complicated contract dispute. If the matter is not settled, the lawyer will be expected to independently prepare for and conduct the full trial. All court apperances and contact with the client will be by the junior lawyer alone, without any co-counsel.

Applicant must be available for the pre-trial in mid-December 2011, and during the weeks surrounding the trial currently scheduled for late March 2012.

Compensation will be based on $700.00/week for a 35-hour work-week, plus travel and out-of-pocket expenses. Bonuses are possible, but not guaranteed, and are entirely at the firm's discretion.

New calls considered, but must have some litigation experience from articling (any kind of court experience is acceptable, not necessarily civil). Must be computer-literate and will be required to use WordPerfect (not MS Word) for almost all document generation. Must have use of a car to attend court and other events outside the office.

To apply, email your resume.
