JOB SUMMARY:
Leisureworld Caregiving Centre – Mississauga is home to 237 residents and currently has an opening for a permanent full time Registered Nurse. The initial assignment is for 75 hours bi-weekly, subject to change based on the operational needs or under the discretion of the manager.
As a valued member of the team, the Registered Nurse demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization’s vision and mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):
• Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural and social needs of the resident.
• Validates the plan of care, goals and objectives with the resident/family.
• Provides effective guidance and supervision for the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and the Personal Support Worker (PSW).
• Ensures that documentation standards are reflected in the resident’s chart.
• Liaises with Ministry of Health Compliance Advisors and Consultants, social workers, physicians, psychiatrists, the Coroner and appropriate health care facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of two years related clinical experience.
• Sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, activity programs, nursing and personnel administration.
• Knowledgeable with respect to the nursing process, developments and current trends in the geriatric care field.
• Knowledge of the requirements of the Nursing Homes Act and Regulations, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food & Drug Act and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes which influence the operation of the Caregiving Center and more specifically the nursing department.
• Ability to set priorities and responsive to a changing and multidisciplinary environment.
• Must be able to do the physical demands of the job.
• Self-directed with ability to evaluate one’s own performance.
• Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education in nursing.
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated effective documentation skills.
• Demonstrates maturity and possesses good communication skills.
• Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor of Science – Nursing or equivalent
• Current registrations with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Certificate in gerontological nursing preferred
• Current BCLS or Heart Saver Certificate an asset
