Feed the Need in Durham (FTND) is Durham Region's emergency food repository providing food to over 40 emergency food providers throughout Region. FTND relieves poverty by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of other registered charities by securing arranging, organizing and delivering food, food related products, and additional basic personal necessities. Incorporated in 2008, FTND became a registered charity in 2009.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of Feed the Need in Durham reporting to the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree (preferably in business, marketing or the social sciences) with five or more years experience in the charitable sector. Demonstrated ability in human resources, volunteer recruitment, grant proposal writing, fund raising, grant reporting, event planning, financial management, donor relations, policy development and public relations is required. In addition, a recent Criminal Background Check is required.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management:
Write effective proposals responding to the needs in the community and the organization.
Operate within the approved budget ensuring that all funding and organizational assets are appropriately safe guarded and administered.
Ensure the financial stability of the organization
Leadership and Planning:
Working with the Board of Directors, develop a short and long term strategic plan for the organization.
Obtain maximum staff performance by clearly defining duties, delegating, and establishing performance standards.
Community Development:
Ensure that the agency is visible and has a strong positive public image by regular media promotion, speaking engagements and presence at appropriate public functions.
Establish and maintain contact with key stakeholders from all levels of government, business and other organizations in the community.
Provide leadership in fundraising activities.
Develop positive relationships with member agencies by facilitating regular member agency meetings and encouraging open dialogue.

Interaction with the Board of Directors:
Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and committees of the board. and keep the Board fully informed of the conditions and operations of the organization.
Exhibit a high degree of transparency in all interactions with the board.
Keep the Board up-to-date regarding community issues, government initiatives and internal issues relating to the work of the organization, and report results versus desired outcomes as prescribed by the Board.
Assets
• Knowledge of food security and community and household food insecurity.
• Book keeping experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Demonstrated success in innovative project and program development.
• Understanding of the Canadian Food Sharing System.
