Director of Programs and Rehabilitation Services

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President of Quality, Risk & Clinical Innovations, the Director of Programs and Rehabilitation Services is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective organization of programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation and social work services of the Leisureworld Caregiving Centres, in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Strategic Plan and Policies and Procedures of the organization and in keeping with relevant legislation and standards and regulatory bodies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures the development, implementation and progression of strategic and long-term plans in respect to all areas of programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services.
• Provides leadership and direction to the programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services team members in employing the Accountability Framework, Mission, Vision, Core Values and Strategic Plan.
• Evaluates the need for Home Specific Policies and Procedures (programs, recreation and leisure and rehabilitation). Submits to Vice President of Quality, Risk & Clinical Innovations for final review and approval.
• Evaluates all aspects of programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services applying a continuous quality improvement approach through routine and regular site visits, auditing, focused reviews and documentation of same.
• Ensures that internal risk management programs are home wide, comprehensive and co-ordinated for monitoring, evaluation and improving the quality of care, services and programs at the home level in all areas of programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services.
• Identifies areas of risk related to programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services and actively collaborates with the home to develop plans to mitigate and minimize risk.
• Reviews balanced scorecard outcomes on a monthly basis and collaborates with the Vice President of Quality, Risk & Clinical Innovations, Directors of Clinical Services, Vice Presidents of Operations and the home to identify quality successes and quality shortfalls, which require follow up, action and education.
• Monitors financial statements and takes action with the home to ensure that areas of programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services over or under spending are managed appropriately and rectified.
• Ensures that all standards and prescribed legislation are adhered to, including but not limited to Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ministry of Labour and Public Health.
• Provides the Director of Administration with feedback related to the performance of program staff.
• Reviews staffing requirements and or challenges related to the programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services deployment and provides recommendations for change and improvement.
• Acts as a liaison between Head Office and the Home to facilitate an open flow of information and communication.
• Actively involved in all programs employee relations issues, including but not limited to progressive discipline, staffing ratios / deployments, health and safety, WSIB etc.
• Attends exit conferences post reviews and inspections (i.e. Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ministry of Labour etc).
• Actively participates in Resident Services Team Meetings as directed by the Vice President of Quality, Risk & Clinical Innovations.
• Actively participates in Regional Meetings as required.
• Prepares documented site visit reviews and distributes with other members of the Corporate Office Team as appropriate not later than the 7th of each month.
• Actively participates on a Head Office Committees as requested, including Best Practice, Quality Council, Strategic Planning, and Education etc.
• Provides recommendations regarding training and education, which would be of benefit to each home and the organization as a whole.
• Identifies current trends in programs, recreation, leisure and rehabilitation services related to long-term care.
• Specific portfolios of expertise will be assigned to the Director of Programs and Rehabilitation Services as a specialist for all homes including management and follow up with contracted therapy providers (OT, PT, Social Work), rehab, restorative, policy and procedure development etc.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3 years related management experience and or relevant education.
• 3 years related long-term care experience and or relevant education.
• Membership in the OLTCA.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Legislation and Standards (including but not limited to Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ministry of Labour, Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation).
• Demonstrated knowledge surrounding Geriatric Rehabilitation.
• Technical Skills.
• Negotiation skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Adult learning principles.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to motivate others.
• Conflict management.
• Commitment to ongoing personal education.

EDUCATION:
• College or university degree in Health Services or Recreation.
• Advanced education or additional certificates related to gerontological recreation, occupational therapy, social work or kinesiology is encouraged.
