PEEL CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION COORDINATOR (5 Shoreham Drive, Downsview Ontario)

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Provide coordination, facilitation, and support for multiple school programs in the Region of Peel, including the Peel EcoSchools Project and climate change learning programs.Work in a team environment to implement educationand communicationinitiatives that engage and inform students, teachers, administration and other stakeholders. Provide excellent customer and client service. Occupational health and safety is a major responsibility of this position.
KNOWLEDGE:
• 2+ years work experience in a related field
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science, education or related discipline (Ontario College of Teachers Certification is an asset.)
• Demonstrated experience in the development of environmental programs,tools and resources
• Demonstrated leadership, team-building and communication skills
• Proficiency in presenting to groups of multiple stakeholders, including student groups
• Ability to coordinate and lead team discussions
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Comprehensive background in Microsoft Office Suite systems, including Outlook
• Must have access a vehicle and have a valid driver's license
• Must possess a valid Criminal Reference Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening)
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
• Support schools in Peel Region to implement the Ontario EcoSchools framework in order to achieve certification
• Manage all aspects of the Ontario EcoSchools certification process, including monitoring, collecting and reviewing applications, developingof tools/resources, facilitating in-service and professional development for school board staff and community members, collecting and analyzing of data
• Establish and maintain a rapport with individual schools through individual on-site visits, phone conversations, e-mail exchanges and presentations
• Coordinate and lead meetings and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including Peel school boards and the Region of Peel
• Support TRCA's climate change learning objectives
• Work collaboratively with TRCA education staff and visiting teachers to lead successful post-field tripstudent follow-up sessions
• Collect and evaluate data related to programming
• Other duties as assigned
