General Cashier (The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto)

JOB SUMMARY
Ensure accountability over the handling and control of the General Cashier fund. Responsible for receiving, verifying all cash transaction and making sure all cash received is deposited to the hotel bank accounts and all transactions have been properly recorded to the hotel book, in accordance to The Ritz-Carlton Standard. Responsible for receiving and distributing all money and for ensuring strict controls are maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the role include:
• Count each envelope in the presence of the appointed witness from the accounts staff as per schedule prepared by assistant Director of Finance.
• Compare the counts to the amount recorded on the drop log and both should initial the drop log as proof of verification and balance the cash with F/O & Micros reports.
• Change in local currency all foreign exchange.
• Prepare General Cashier report.
• Daily bank deposit must be accurate.
• Daily processing of cashiers due backs.
• Prepare over & short report for Director of Finance.
• Deposit cash, cheques in the bank.
• Attach all deposit bank slip to general cashier report for income auditor to check and assistant Director of Finance to reconcile balance with the Bank Statements.
• Prepare all petty cash requests on daily basis and pay to concerning hotel staff.
• Get approval of all petty cash vouchers by Director of Finance and after payment, stamp paid by General Cashier.
• Prepare petty cash voucher (control sheet) for posting by the Accounts Payable.
• Perform General Cashier counts & balance house fund daily before end of shift.
• Coordinate surprise cash counts of cashier’s floats in cooperation with income auditor.
• Monthly audit of all cashier‘s bank.
• Checks and pays expense claims.
• Pay damaged, lost guest property.
• Supply cashiers with extra money and change as needed.
• Control cashiers cash floats.
• Follow up business and travel advances.
• Distribute bank receipts to the related sections in Accounting.
• Reconcile all related accounts and prepare reconciliation statements:
o Daily control of Opera and Micros cash collection.
o Advance deposit collections, control and reporting.
o Calculation of FO currency exchange rate.
o Month-end revaluation of cash and bank accounts.
o Transfer to G/C account.
o Cash Sales bridge.
o All cash and house bank accounts.
o Travel advances account.
• Follow up the stock of expense receipt. Give printing order.
• Keep prepaid courier envelopes and distributes.
• Make all accounting records generated by the transactions mentioned above to both legal cash book.
• Comply with The Ritz-Carlton health, safety and hygiene standards
PROFILE
Experience
• Must have a minimum of 2-3 years experience as general cashier with The Ritz-Carlton or another hotel company.
Education
• College Diploma or University Degree
