Human Resources Generalist(Printing Industry) (Aurora)

Purpose:
To provide expertise and guidance in all areas of Human Resources including: labour relations, employee relations, health and safety, compensation and benefits. To develop and maintain human resources policies and programs that support plant and corporate objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all aspects of recruitment, including job postings, sourcing recruitment methods, interviewing candidates, reference checks and providing employment offers
• Orientation and documentation of new employees
• Provide managers with guidance on corrective action/attendance
• Benefits administration, including processing enrollments and changes to benefit plans, answering employee inquiries, processing benefit billings and liaising with benefit carriers
• Administer short term and long term disability claims
• Process and track annual increases and progression increases
• Ensure authorization forms are completed for any employment related changes, process and liaise with payroll
• Completing reports i.e. head count, health and safety, and other ad hoc reports
• Conduct exit interviews
• Provide management and employees with guidance on employee relation practices, human resources policies, employment legislation and collective agreement interpretation
• Develop and maintain procedures aimed at improving the quality and delivery of human resources programs/services
• Act as back up in absence of Human Resources Manager
• Member of health and safety committee
• Complete accident investigations and follow up as necessary
• Ensure compliance of all Company policies.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned
Health and Safety Specific:
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act is maintained at all times and recommend measures to improve health and safety
• Provide direction to ensure specific safety rules, housekeeping, proactive accident prevention and conscious “safety” behavior’s are adhered to and commended or enforced if necessary
• Ensure the workplace is inspected on a regular basis.
• Review with the Health and Safety Coordinator the findings of any accident investigation analysis
• Initiate implementation of corrective action recommendations
• Refrain from activities which may jeopardize the health and safety of others; i.e. horseplay, removal of guards, pranks, feats of strength, etc.
Education:
• Post-secondary diploma/degree in Human Resources Management with. CHRP or working towards would be an asset.
Experience:
• Two to three years progressive human resources experience in a non-unionized environment, including employee/labour relations, recruitment, performance management, benefits administration, health and safety, and claims management
Skills and Knowledge:
• Working knowledge of labour relations, recruitment, benefits administration, health and safety, claims management
• Knowledge of employment legislation
• Ability to deal with confidential information and sensitive situations
• Demonstrated time management skills, ability to multi-task
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of staff
• Intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel
• Knowledge of safe work practices
