Job Description
Our Client is the GTA is looking for a General Account to run their Canadian Division.
• Make decisions on process improvement
Indentify which issues require escalation (e.g. potential P&L risks)
• Financial responsibilities limited to reconciling and reporting results.
• Reports to Accounting Manager with no direct report.
• This role provides a the opportunity for the successful candidate to interact with people across a broad cross section of the business and finance team. Including: Accounting, Planning & Reporting, Tax, Shared Services.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to take full ownership of the processes and deliverables they are assigned.
Including:
• Responsible for the operating of a number of SOX controls (and CARM non-sox controls).
Driving the Canada IMC balance sheet review process on a quarterly basis with the FD and Director of Accounting.
• Responsible for the review and challenge of 2 our Global reporting packages on a monthly basis (packages completed by Shared Service centre, however the responsibility for ensuring appropriate disclosure and accuracy lies with the market).
• Hold our Shared Service Centre partners to account to ensure that Intercompany aged items are cleared on a timely basis and clearing accounts are being managed and monitored appropriately.
• Responsible for preparing a number of balance sheet reconciliations (including managing Payroll end to end reconciliation process).
• Preparation and entry of journal entries.
• Responsible for collecting journal entries and backup.
• Responsible for coordinating the annual review and collection of Statutory GL reconciliations.
• Responsible to identify and drive process changes within the influence of this role.
• Participate on Finance Subcommittees (e.g. Finance social committee).
• General Accounting or Reporting responsibilities to change over time as requirements change.
Skills
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting
• CA or CMA Accounting Designation preferred.
• 5 years in Accounting demonstrating increasing responsibilities
• Candidates with potential future geographic mobility preferred
• Good knowledge of computer applications: SAP and Microsoft Office (advance Excel)
• Understanding of IFRS preferable
