Service Support Specialist (Toronto)

Position Title: Service Support Specialist – 6 months contract
Department: Technical Services
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Position Description
Reporting to the Service Support Manager and working under the general direction of Technical Services Management, the successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and deploying our client's software releases and upgrades to the company's internal test environments and to the client production sites as well as releasing configuration bundles and related changes according to the guidelines set by the subset ITSM (IT Service Management) of the ITIL framework. He/she will also maintain internal source code repositories and version control/tracking systems. Written and verbal English communications skills are imperative; the SSS-CCR will be responsible for updating the intranet web site listing weekly deployment plans and other reporting environments as per department requirements.
Responsibilities
• Software deployment & functional verification: Compile and deploy application code to internal and external testing & client production sites on ongoing basis; ensure successful transfer and compilation
• Resolve technical issues following deployments and changes
• Build and maintain source repositories, based on approved test code
• Update intranet web page posting weekly deployment plans
Relevant Technical/Business Skills Required:
• UNIX/Linux - commands & permissions. scripting skills an asset
• Database concepts and code deployment techniques
• Windows Vista, XP, DOS
• Familiarity with network concepts
• Basic web page design & update abilities
Personal Skills and Abilities Required
• Strong organizational skills; detail oriented;
• Excellent communication skills
• A balance of professional confidence and prudent caution when responsible for deployments
• Prepared to work after hours and on weekends occasionally (schedule/project dependent)
Desired Education:
• Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Information Technology / Computer Systems / Systems Development
• Canadian Securities Industry certifications beneficial
Experience and/or familiarity with the following are an asset:
• Progress Software: RoundTable, Compiler, WebClient Assembler, WebSpeed, Application Server.
• InstallShield Administrator
• Programming experience (perl, php, shell, Java, C, C++, Visual Studio, Progress ABL)
• FTP, FTP/SSL, SFTP, SSH
• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification (MCSE)
