WSIB Coordinator (Disability Management, Return to Work Coordinator)

YUTA is currently seeking currently seeking a WSIB Coordinator for this excellent temporary opportunity within the Employee Well Being Office, within the department of Human Resources and Employee Relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for all cases involving occupational illness and injury claims, which includes timely reporting, development of accommodation plans and facilitation between the parties for effective and safe return to work. The employment is to begin as soon as possible with an undetermined length.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing the WSIB process: Processing all WSIB forms in accordance with the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act (WSIA) paying strict attention to reporting obligations and timelines. Tracking and managing all WSIB cases by liaising with the WSIB as York’s representative throughout the complete case management process. Analyzing monthly cost statements to ensure accurate reporting by the WSIB and to determine opportunities for cost relief by making written application to the Secondary Injury Enhancement Fund (SIEF). Reviewing WSIB decisions and object to decisions as necessary; review cases and prepare for and participate in appeal hearings at both the WSIB and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Appeals Tribunal level. Analyzing the New Experimental Experience Rating (NEER) statements to determine opportunities for cost relief and to report on projected rebates or surcharges.

• Recommending and developing return to work strategies for employees: Reviewing all absences due to occupational illness and /or injury, through coordination of information from employee, department, medical practitioner, WSIB and initiate the process of adjudication to determine entitlement to benefits; process Work/Education Placement Agreement forms. Assuming responsibility for an early and safe intervention, focusing on the resources available for rehabilitation, recovery and return of the employee during the absence period. Maintaining contact and appropriate follow up with employee and supervisor during the incident, first aid, health care and lost time period. Liasing with WSIB, managers, employees, and any other related departments at York on a regular ongoing basis to facilitate communication and to make effective recommendations for early and safe return to work plans. Maintaining accurate records and review bi-weekly supervisor/employee accommodation reports to determine if work accommodation plan is meeting the needs of the employee and department.

• Documentation: Developing and maintaining PeopleSoft /Health & Safety/ WSIB database, and analyze WSIB records for reporting to the manager, as required. Documenting and tracking important elements of WSIB cases into the PeopleSoft system.

Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience managing the WSIB process and developing return to work programs. Demonstrated ability to write detailed return to work plans and to discuss and resolve concerns or issues relating to sick leave entitlements, long term disability and return to work process. Must be a self-starter with the ability to determine when to involve the Manager. Must have the ability to multitask, be committed to strict deadlines and possess time management and organizational skills. Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct. Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Email. PeopleSoft experience an asset.


Education:
Community college graduate in a related field such as Human Resources, Kinesiology, Health Sciences or Social Sciences. Disability Management courses preferred.
