Job Title: Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator
Location: Mississauga

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is a composite of highly engaged and committed safety minded professionals supported by a strong group of stakeholders. Our mandate is to improve electrical safety for the people of Ontario. We administer and enforce Ontario’s electrical safety regulations through the delivery of a wide range of safety services

General Accountabilities

Reporting to the General Manager, Regulatory Policy & Stakeholder Liaison, the Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator will:

• Lead the implementation of stakeholder engagement action plans developed in response to external Stakeholder Engagement Reviews.
• Make recommendations to the supervisor regarding stakeholder engagement strategy.
• Develop yearly stakeholder engagement plans, for approval by the supervisor, setting expectations among stakeholders and communicating outcomes to senior ESA management.
• Facilitate and support ESA’s various stakeholder Advisory Councils to ensure effective and productive operations of these councils.
• Assist supervisor in conducting difficult and complex stakeholder consultations and analyze problems and produce documents and responses in consultation with the supervisor to resolve identified stakeholder concerns.
• Create stakeholder engagement processes and implement in line with stakeholder expectations and stakeholder engagement strategy.
• Assist and advise other ESA staff on stakeholder engagement practices and assist in developing a culture of transparency and openness across the organization.
• Support supervisor in their participation in national and provincial safety and regulatory forums.
• Support relationships with government departments or other safety or regulatory agencies.
• Gather information on best practices associated with advisory councils and similar bodies, as well as stakeholder engagement best practices.
• Develop and maintain the stakeholder engagement section of ESA’s website.
• Maintain an awareness of ESA corporate stakeholder engagement needs, stakeholder issues, emerging trends in policy development, opportunities for new programs and make suggestions for improving processes as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

• Requires general knowledge of business administration economics, political science, finance, science, public safety and public relations to interpret record and gather information on issues and assist in providing responses and timely distribution of material to appropriate government bodies and internal interests and assist in make decisions concerning ESA and its regulatory affairs.
• Requires a good knowledge of English and communication skills to effectively deal with government staff, external stakeholders and ESA staff, and assist with the preparation of material, reports, research and writing for the supervisor.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in either a four-year university education in an appropriate field (Business Administration, Political Science, or Public Administration) or the equivalent level of education or experience.

• Requires experience working in a stakeholder or facilitator capacity within government, or a regulatory or safety agency to understand the development of policy, and the management of stakeholder interactions.
• Requires experience in government and regulatory affairs to effectively establish, cultivate and maintain effective relationships with senior government officials and to develop and maintain good working relations with staff and management.
• Requires experience in journalism and journalistic decorum, or writing in order to research, produce and coordinate the production of accurate documentation on ESA matters for use by the various stakeholders.
• Requires project management experience to undertake specific projects and stakeholder-facilitated event planning assignments.
• Requires analytical skills for gathering and evaluating information, and analyzing the potential stakeholder implications.
• Requires superior interpersonal skills, political acumen and problem solving skills in order to participate in complex negotiations and to support policy development projects.
• Requires experience to interpret current and anticipated economic, social and safety trends and apply information to the development of policy and other regulatory options.
• Requires strong communications skills, clear and concise writing ability and exceptional presentation skills.
• Requires a strong understanding of government policy process and the needs and requirements of decision makers, extensive policy project management experience, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and government officials.
• Requires experience facilitating meetings and helping groups of people assess, understand and find solutions to problems.
• Requires experience to organize priorities to meet tight deadlines.
• A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
