Senior Database Architect (Toronto)

The Serve4it’s Client in Public Sector is requiring the services of a Senior Database Architect
Position Title: Senior Database Architect
Submission closed: Friday Oct 08, 2009 by 4:00pm
Anticipated Duration: 3 months and possible for 3 months extensions
Rates: 63 to 83 dollars an hour
Qualifications
The Database Architect must have the following qualifications:
1. In-depth knowledge and experience (at least 3 years) with the following areas:
a. Business Intelligence systems development and data modeling
b. Dimensional Modeling techniques (e.g., Star Schema)
c. Oracle Database (Version 7, 8 or 9)
2. Familiarity with Oracle Database applications and tools
3. Experience with Database Installation, Administration, Migration, and Tuning
4. Knowledge and experience with Web based systems development (ideally using Websphere)
5. Knowledge and experience with a GIS tool (ideally with ArcGIS/INFO)
6. Knowledge and experience with Java, JSP and PL/SQL
7. Experience with ERWin modeling tool
8. Solid concept and working knowledge of Metadata
9. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
10. Highly familiar with software delivery lifecycle, especially iterative approach and Business Intelligence
11. Sound judgement and self-reliance
University or college degree/certificate in Information Technology related discipline or equivalent
Background
The Database Architect to provide the following services:
1. Participate in the Business requirements to identify the data requirements
2. Model the required data as a Data Mart using Dimensional Modeling technique (e.g. Star Schema)
3. Create Logical Data Model (LDM) using the ERWin tool
4. Identify the data sources by investigating the source database(s)
5. Prepare data mappings to the source operational data
6. Create Physical Data Model (PDM) using the ERWin tool
7. Review the LDM and PDM models with the project team, other stakeholders and Corporate IT DBA for approval
8. Assist Corporate IT DBA in implementing data bases and in tuning
9. Follow governing rules, standards, guidelines prevailing in Company standards and Corporate IT departments
10. Perform other duties as needed as a Database Architect and Modeler in a Business Intelligence development project
