Group Dog Walker (Thornhill / Richmond Hill / Markham area)
at Human Resources (Anywhere)
We are currently hiring for one enthusiastic individual to transport small groups of dogs to and from a local fenced-in off leash area and supervise/interact with them. A passion for dogs, and being outside, is essential.
Must be self motivated, energetic, physically fit, able to lift at least 60 lbs, have own reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record.
Must be comfortable dealing with all breeds of dogs, and have familiarity with dog handling. (We’ve found that those with horse handling experience do well in this industry.) Training in dog behaviour and care, as well as dog group dynamics is required and can be acquired (see below for details).
Currently the hours of work are midday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, approx 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Relief / Occasional Cat Visits and Individual Dog Walks can also be added to the walkers schedule as they come available. (eg. when our Individual Dog Walker is on vacation)
There are considerable growth possibilities, once the right candidate is hired, to allow for Group Walks Monday through Friday and a second group walk each day, possibly extending the day by approx 2 to 3 hours. (9:30/10 to 4/4:30)
Permanent Position
All interested applicants are invited to attend our Information Session scheduled for Friday, May 22 at 6:30 pm at Holiday Pet Care, 8234 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON (just south of Hwy 407 on the west side of Yonge). Please bring your resume and 3 professional (work related) references.
Please be aware that should you require the necessary training, Professional Pet Care 101 will be offered on Sunday, May 24, 2009, 9am-5pm, and Specialty/Practicals during the days immediately following.
Individuals who have successfully completed Professional Pet Care 101, as well as either the Dog Daycare Specialty & Practical or Dog Walker/Pet Sitter Specialty & Practical will be eligible to have the costs of these courses reimbursed to them, if hired.

Pet Care Internship Program
Professional Pet Care 101 Sunday, May 24, 2009 9am-5pm $95
You will learn about: Dog Group Dynamics, Dog-Human Body Language & Communication, Basic Dog Training & Behaviour Modification, Recognizing Health Issues, Emergency Concerns & Medical Conditions, Administration of Medication, Procedures for Sanitization, Proper Pet Handling.
Dog Daycare Specialty & Practical 201D 10 hrs (in 3 sessions) $95
Dog Walker/Pet Sitter Specialty & Practical 201WPS 10 hrs (in 3 sessions) $95
Techniques learned in Specialties & Practicals will guide you in implementing proper procedures and practices to an above-standard level. By using hands-on techniques you will learn to provide for pets’ well-being, demonstrating attentiveness to their needs, safety, feeding, cleanliness, dispensing of medication, as well as the proper sanitization procedures of their environment. While performing the duties of these positions, the intern must be aware that they will be frequently exposed to vomit, urine, stool, saliva, outside weather conditions and noise.
